From the quaint town of Tsolo ezilalini eTranskei, comes an African storyteller who expresses all he is through his music with transparent passion. Bongeziwe left his hometown to pursue acting at AFDA film school but then by pure inspiration from one of his lecturers, he changed his major to music.
Hard work and perseverance is all starting to pay off as he signed with Sony Music Entertainment Africa and released his debut album, Umlilo. The sounds coming from this album chants pride and humanity. “I write specifically for young black children like me, inspired by my poor background, however it is humbling when old people say they relate and listen to my music as well,” says Bongeziwe.
His describes the genre of music he does as Urban traditional, African folk which is a brand new sound within the industry. The Umlilo album speaks of soul, hip-hop and mbhaqanga. “My music is basically about storytelling, I write about what happens in our societies and our realities”. The album features the likes of Kyla-Rose from Freshly Ground, MXO and Zulu boy, too mention a few.
Lomfana is the one to watch out this year, 2013 and the years to come as he has certainly proven that with pure passion you can achieve anything and he is only heading one way, the top.
